Group Seeking To Repeal Ohio Nuclear Subsidies Files Federal Lawsuit Over State's Referendum Rules
October 08,2019
Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts, which is seeking to overturn HB 6 via a ballot initiative, the nuclear subsidy law, has filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that Ohio's laws for referendums, including registration and summary requirements, violate U.S. constitutional protections for freedom of speech, freedom to petition the government for redress, and freedom of association under the First Amendment, Cleveland.com reports
Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts also alleges a state requirement that signatures represent a minimum number of Ohio counties violates the, “one-man, one-vote”, principle embodied in the Fourteenth Amendment
Cleveland.com reports that Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts is, "struggling to meet the Oct. 21 legal deadline to submit the 265,774 valid signatures from registered Ohio voters needed to place HB6 on the November 2020 ballot."
